Transpower Tower Signage.
New Zealand
Identimark collaborated with Transpower’s engineering team to design a full range of U3 tower signage. A cost analysis revealed millions in potential savings, and a formal standards update followed.
Faded pole IDs were becoming a serious hazard across SA Power’s network.
Crews were operating close to transmission poles without clear identification, increasing the risk of accidental contact and driving up maintenance costs due to frequent replacements.
Identimark partnered with the client to deliver U3 signage with 32+ year durability and enhanced night visibility - helping field teams work safely, efficiently, and confidently around high-voltage assets.
U3 signage life expectancy of 32+ years
Eliminated need for frequent replacements
Glow-in-the-dark safety strip added for night visibility
Custom packaging and guidance sped up installation
Reduced long-term maintenance costs for network operators
Transmission poles must be clearly marked to ensure safety and efficient asset identification.
SA Power was replacing ID signs far more frequently than planned due to rapid fading and UV damage. This not only increased labour and material costs, but also posed a safety risk for workers operating near live conductors without proper visual cues..
Key challenges included:
Fast-fading signs: Harsh climate conditions caused premature deterioration.
Safety risk to crews: Unmarked or unclear poles created confusion and potential danger.
Labour inefficiency: Frequent re-installs consumed time and resources.
"It’s a simple upgrade that delivered serious results—safer crews, less maintenance, and signs we won’t have to think about again for decades."
Identimark worked closely with SA Power to trial and select U3 signage for transmission poles. Built for high UV environments and engineered to last over 32 years, the signs also featured a luminous strip to support night-time visibility. Installation was simplified using SMP60 adhesive and custom packaging, allowing field teams to apply signs safely and efficiently without specialised tools or delays.
This upgrade helped SA Power protect its teams and infrastructure with smarter, longer-lasting solutions—and freed up maintenance crews to focus on higher-priority tasks.
Key solutions included:
UV-stable and fade-free signage that delivers 32+ years of clarity, compliance, and reliability.
Boosts crew safety during low-light or night-time operations near high-voltage assets.
Fast, tool-free application—secure bonding that lasts for decades in any environment.

Identimark supplied aerial ID plates, danger high voltage signs, and tower ID plates - each engineered to ElectraNet’s specific requirements.
Identimark collaborated with Orion from the RFQ stage, identifying not only technical gaps but opportunities to lift performance. We introduced U3 as a premium solution with proven longevity and UV resistance, and advised on standards.
Now live across the network, Powerco’s labelled pillars are safer, faster to work on, and fully integrated into their asset management system.
By replacing PVC signage with U3 material and using Natgum adhesive for correct, fast installs, we helped Powerco standardise signage across their assets while reducing total cost of ownership.
