Transpower Tower Signage.
New Zealand
Identimark collaborated with Transpower’s engineering team to design a full range of U3 tower signage. A cost analysis revealed millions in potential savings, and a formal standards update followed.
When Orion rebranded in 2017, they needed a signage solution that would not only reflect their new identity but also withstand the elements and time.
Identimark won the RFQ and partnered with Orion to deliver U3 signage across 59 substations and thousands of field assets.
The result: consistent branding, improved safety, and a sharp reduction in replacements thanks to U3’s unmatched durability.
30+ year lifespan U3 signage rolled out across all assets
Improved public safety with clear, graffiti-resistant signs
Full signage standardisation to ANSI specs
Reduced replacement costs and maintenance downtime
Fast project rollout across substations, kiosks, and transformers
Orion’s legacy signage was degrading quickly - fading, cracking, and failing to meet compliance needs. Many safety-critical signs were missing or poorly mounted. This not only created risk and inconsistency across the network but also raised public safety concerns.
Orion needed a single supplier to deliver compliant, long-life signage that aligned with their new brand identity and could be standardised across a wide asset range - from substations to service pillars.
Key challenges included:
Signage degradation: Signs were deteriorating within 5–10 years, leading to frequent replacements and site inconsistency.
Missing safety messaging: Critical arc flash, PPE and CCTV signs were either missing or poorly installed, risking non-compliance.
Inconsistent standards and specs: Lack of standardisation across drawings and installation methods increased time and cost for replacements.
"Identimark showed us what was possible. We’ve seen major improvements in safety, durability and long-term savings."
Identimark collaborated with Orion from the RFQ stage, identifying not only technical gaps but opportunities to lift performance. We introduced U3 as a premium solution with proven longevity and UV resistance, and advised on standards - ultimately shifting Orion to ANSI for better compliance alignment. Every sign was custom-made, catalogue-matched and installed with quality materials.
Orion’s updated signage system now meets safety requirements, protects public infrastructure, and delivers consistent branding across the network. The shift to U3 has set a new standard - one built to last for decades.
Key solutions included:
Fade-free, UV-stable, graffiti-resistant and backed by a 30+ year design life. Ensures safety messages stay visible and compliant.
Fast, secure cable tie system ideal for outdoor installations.
Used for permanent adhesion across a range of surfaces.
Ensures long-term bonding and installation reliability.

Identimark supplied aerial ID plates, danger high voltage signs, and tower ID plates - each engineered to ElectraNet’s specific requirements.
Now live across the network, Powerco’s labelled pillars are safer, faster to work on, and fully integrated into their asset management system.
Identimark worked closely with SA Power to trial and select U3 signage for transmission poles. Built for high UV environments and engineered to last over 32 years, the signs also featured a luminous strip to support night-time visibility.
By replacing PVC signage with U3 material and using Natgum adhesive for correct, fast installs, we helped Powerco standardise signage across their assets while reducing total cost of ownership.
