Cost of graffiti to our councils

4 July 2018

The cost of removing graffiti in New Zealand and Australia is estimated at a staggering 1.7 billion annually.

But that cost goes further than just the burden on councils and their rate payers.

Graffiti not only damages assets and property, but it undermines public confidence and perceptions of safety in the areas where it appears; reduces property values, and results in loss of business for retailers.

Police websites say that the appearance of graffiti also gives the impression that crime is more widespread than it actually is.
